Tired of your slow computer? We give you some tips to make your computer run a lot faster.
It can be a little (or a lot) annoying to have to wait around for your computer to run a program or load a website.
It is very common for computers to slow down with time and this can drive you crazy. But before you run off to buy a new one, we have a couple of tips you can use to help make your computer a little faster.
Let’s get started!
1. If you don’t use it, lose it
Computers usually come with a lot of pre-installed programs that you’ll probably never use. So the best thing you can do is to simply remove all those programs that you are not using. This action will help you save a lot of disk space.
2. Clean up your hard drive disk
Did you know that you should have at least 15% of your hard disk space free? If your hard disk is almost full, you need to start deleting files and programs immediately. A good idea is to save your photos and videos on a cloud service, such as Google Drive, or you can also use an external hard drive.
3. Don’t forget to shut it down
This may seem like obvious advice, but a lot of times we forget to do it. It is important to shut down or restart your computer at least once a week. This small action will help keep your computer fast and sharp.
4. Make sure programs don’t automatically launch
Do you really need a bunch of programs launching automatically every time you turn on your computer? The answer is probably no. Programs that automatically launch and keep running eat up a lot of your computer’s memory, so if you want your computer to be faster you should definitely take care of this.
5. Consider using lighter software
Not all software is created equal and some programs can take up much more space than others. For example, some antivirus programs can be very heavy, so you can consider switching to a cloud-based antivirus, such as ESET Online Scanner.
6. Clear temporary files
Temporary files are created every time you boot up or use applications and they can really build up and take up a lot of space in your computer.
To get rid of these temporary files in Windows you can run a disk cleanup, which you can access by clicking Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.
